Custom bracket maker
Chain rounds your way: each round holds one or more branches, each branch its own format. Teams going through are placed automatically; tap a place to change it. No sign-up.
When do you need a custom bracket?
When your tournament does not fit one format: regional qualifiers and then finals, a group branch running beside a knockout branch, or seeded teams going straight into a later round.
Each round holds one or more branches played side by side. A later round takes its teams from the round before: a group place, the k-th best of a place across groups, a match's winner or loser, or an entered team going straight in.
How teams going through are placed
- A group stage sends its places through from every group, the group winners first, then the runners-up.
- A knockout sends its quarter-final winners (its semi-final winners in a smaller bracket).
- A double elimination sends both grand finalists.
- The teams going through alternate between the branches and are shared out between the next round's branches. A knockout is seeded: with too few teams, the top seeds get the byes.
Frequently asked questions
How is a custom bracket different from groups then knockout?
Groups then knockout is one fixed chain. Here you set the number of rounds, the branches in each round and each branch's format, then choose where every place of a later round takes its team from.
Where can a later place take its team from?
From a group place (winner of group A), the k-th best of a place across groups (best third place of groups A and B), a match's winner or loser, or an entered team going straight in. Picking a source another place already has swaps the two places.
What is a bye place?
A place with no team: its opponent goes through without playing. Tap × on a later place to leave it empty, and tap the place to pick a team again. With too few teams the top seeds get the byes first, and no match has a bye on both sides.
Can a Swiss branch send teams to the next round?
Not yet. Swiss standings change after every round, so a later round cannot take teams from them yet. A Swiss branch still works in a later round, taking teams from other branches.
What happens when I create a tournament from this?
Every branch becomes a stage of one event, and the later places are linked to their sources. Once a branch has its results, the teams move into their places on their own.
